Kindness: How One Tiny Action Can Impact Many
I remember many years ago disagreeing strongly when hubby told me that one person couldn’t make a difference in the world. We were in our late twenties, and like most young people, we both thought we knew everything.
To me (being the optimist) it just made sense that I, or anyone else for that matter, could make a difference in the world, even though at the time I couldn’t actually articulate how this might happen, or why I believed it to be true.
I have vague memories that trying to explain my point of view at the time was somewhat fruitless, but I’ve gotten much soooo better at the whole ‘being right’ thing over the last thirty something years! 😎
Now hubby on the other hand, well he wasn’t even worried about explaining his point of view. He was just adament that one person couldn’t make a difference on their own. People power ruled sometimes, but only in numbers!
But as with many things we’ve ‘discussed’ over the last thirty odd years in our marriage, he now knows he was his point of view was kind of limited and more than a little pessimistic…
The Ripple Effect Of One Small Act Of Kindness
How do you feel when you’ve had a rough day and a stranger smiles at you? And what about the time you helped the stranger who has just dropped half her groceries on the ground? Do you remember how relieved and thankful she was when you helped her pick them up?
Each of these small acts of kindness can make a huge impact on someone’s life.
And the thing is that small actions can often lead to giant ripples. One small act of kindness can completely change the life of someone who then performs a kindness for someone else.
In fact the cycle may continue, from one person to the other, growing and spreading around the world without you even knowing about it.
Kindness Feels Good
No matter how big or small your act of kindness is, it’s likely to have real benefits to your own mental health. According to psychologists and researchers, even the smallest acts of kindness can create a positive effect to not only the receiver’s psyche, but on that of the giver as well.
Even a simple smile can increase the comfort of another person as well as making them happier.
The truth is that your beautiful smile could be the reason someone is lifted out of despair.
And once again, smiling not only benefits the receiver, but it also benefits you too! Smiling puts you in a better mood as well as having other interesting effects.
Kindness Can Be Contagious
Tiny acts of kindness can make a change in two ways; they are often the catalyst for others to start invoking their own small kindnesses, and they have a contagious affect on others. In other words, when we are kind, other people are inspired to kindness also.
Let’s take a look at another example. If you’re friendly to the bus driver, he’s more likely to be considerate to the next passenger.
In turn, that passenger is more likely to arrive home feeling happy and have a great evening with their family.
Everyday Small Acts Of Kindness
There are so many ways we can be kind, and with a small decision to spread kindness every day, we can change not only our lives, but impact countless lives that we may never ever know about.
With simple acts such as smiling, giving compliments, or leaving uplifting notes in books at your local library or bookstore, you can make a difference to someone’s life every day.
Helping someone who needs help, volunteering or donating are other ways to be kind to those around you.
Whatever you choose to do, each tiny act of kindness can have a huge impact on others in ways you may never imagine. Each tiny act is observed and passed along to another, gradually growing into a big act.
Sharing doTERRA – The Kindness Company
For myself, and for millions of others around the world, sharing doTERRA is an act of kindness that keeps on giving.
This is why doTERRA has grown so big, so fast.
When I share an essential oil with a stranger I meet in the supermarket and help her solve her health challenge or emotional problem, I impact her life. If she then goes on to share an oil with someone else, then I have played my part in impacting that person’s life.
And so it goes on, spreading around the world, impacting potentially millions of lives in a positive way – spreading kindness.
In doTERRA there are literally teams of millions of people that have been built on kindness and caring over the past eleven years. These massive teams of people that span the globe, have been built by one person at a time, being kind and caring to another, sharing essential oils, and natural solutions for health, emotional or financial challenges with others, who in turn share with more people.
And then there are the growers and communities whose lives are also changed by all of us sharing doTERRA.
doTERRA is truly a business built on kindness.
I love this business. It feels good and it makes my heart sing! And hubby now understands how one person can make a difference! We are blessed.
Love & light
